Green to Clean Guidelines

We will start the Green-to-Clean treatment to clear your pool. Please review the following important guidelines during this process:

Do Not Swim

For your safety, swimming is strictly prohibited until the treatment is complete. Elevated chlorine and shock chemicals can cause skin and eye irritation, respiratory issues, or more serious health effects.

Keep Equipment Running

The pool pump must run continuously throughout the treatment. Please do not operate or adjust the pool equipment unless there is an immediate risk concern. If you have an automatic control panel, it will be placed in Service Mode and must remain there until we notify you that the treatment is complete. Proper circulation ensures chemicals distribute evenly and speeds up the cleanup.

High Cyanuric Acid (CYA) Levels (AKA Stabilizer)

Before the treatment begins, we will test your pool for CYA levels. If your pool’s stabilizer (CYA) level is high (70 ppm or higher), the Green-to-Clean process cannot be effective without first lowering it. CYA binds to chlorine in the water, making it much less active and drastically slowing down its ability to kill algae and sanitize the pool. When levels are excessive, even very high doses of chlorine will not clear the pool efficiently.

In these cases, it is necessary to dilute the pool water through a controlled overflow process. This involves adding fresh water while allowing excess water to exit, gradually reducing CYA levels without a full drain. If your pool requires this, we will provide you with clear, step-by-step instructions on how to safely complete the dilution before we begin the Green-to-Clean treatment.

Appearance During Treatment

The pool water may look worse before it looks better. This is completely normal as algae and contaminants are being oxidized, broken down, and filtered out.

Plaster Staining

Algae, especially when it has been in the pool for a while or in severe cases, can sometimes leave stains on the plaster. We will do our best to minimize or remove these, but please understand that complete stain removal is not always guaranteed with the Green-to-Clean treatment.

Treatment Duration

The time needed for the Green-to-Clean process depends on the severity of the algae and the condition of the pool equipment. In most cases, it takes 3 to 5 days, however, it could take longer in certain situations.

During this period the following steps will be performed:

  • Brushing of pool to break up algae buildup
  • Chemical treatment to eliminate algae and rebalance the water
  • Monitoring and adjustment of water chemistry as needed
  • Vacuuming to remove settled debris and dead algae
  • Cleaning/backwashing the filter to ensure proper circulation and filtration
  • Inspection of pool equipment to confirm it is operating properly throughout the process

Post-Treatment Testing

Once the treatment is complete, we will test the water to confirm that all chemical levels are safe for swimming.

When to Resume Swimming

Do not use the pool until we provide final clearance.
